Government Wastes Money in Fresno

Cranky Greg was driving around in Clovis, California the other day and noticed that a portion of Shaw Avenue in Clovis was being torn up and repaved.  This puzzled Cranky Greg because there wss nothing wrong with that part of Shaw Avenue to begin with.

Then Cranky Greg saw the above sign.

There are other parts of Clovis and Fresno that are being inconvenienced by this "stimulus" spending.  What the government is doing is using taxpayer money to tear up perfectly fine streets and then repaving them.  This results in inconvenience and a terrible waste of money.

This morning, Cranky Greg drove on Shaw Lane in front of the Fresno State campus.  Last night, they government started tearing up that part of Shaw Avenue for the same damn reason!

And Bullard Avenue in Clovis is subject to the same silliness.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a joke passed by politicians to ensure their reelection.

And you're paying for it.

Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize! Seriously! LOL!!!

Cranky Greg got to the office this morning, logged on to his computer to his home page, The Drudge Report.

He saw this.

President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize!

Cranky Greg starting laughing and was a little annoyed because he thought he was reading The Onion!!

So Cranky turns to CNN, MSNBC and even Fox News!

And it was true!

The the joke wasn't a joke!

Cranky Greg's a little creeped out.  This Obama thing is totally out of control.

Where's WhiteAtlas.com?

An old friend e-mailed Cranky Greg today with an article from the Dallas Business Journal discussing American Airlines' new website, BlackAtlas.com.

At first, Cranky Greg thought it was a joke, because it seemed so silly - a social networking site by American Airlines for black people.

After all, Cranky Greg thought that Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks and all of the other heroes from the Civil Rights era fought and sacrificed so their kids would not have to be classified by their skin color.  Their kids would be judged, instead, by the content of their character.

Apparently all that is out now.  One gets tagged as a racist for merely criticizing Barack Obama's push for Socialism, and yet now major U.S. corporations think it's cool to have Black social networking sites, to hell with Rosa Parks and MLK.

Cranky Greg wonders when there will be a KKKAtlas.com or a BlackPantherAtlas.com or a Whitey.Com or the CrackerClub.com.

Today it must be acceptable to have Black clubs, but Cranky Greg doesn't think it would be socially acceptable for a Whites club.

Cranky Greg must be missing something.

Glenn Beck: Marketing Genius

Glenn Beck, of the Obama-hated Fox News network, is on the cover of the increasingly irrelevant Time magazine, and he is all everyone is talking about today.

Liberals hate him and he is even controversial amongst alleged conservatives, which is great news for Glenn Beck.

Glenn Beck could care less who loves him or who hates him.  All he wants to be is the topic of conversation.

So to watch David Frum bitch and moan about Beck just warms the cockles of Beck's heart, small as it may be.

And the Obama people who refuse to do business with Fox News as a result of Beck, well, it can't get any better than that!

Cranky Greg watches Beck whenever his TiVo will record it, but sometimes it doesn't for no apparent reason.  Cranky thinks there is a conspiracy involving the Obama people to keep Glenn Beck off his TiVo!

Cranky Greg likes a lot of what Beck has to say, but Cranky is not convinced that even Beck believes his own tales.  What Cranky Greg does know is that Glenn Beck is a marketing genius, and he's gonna milk this cow until it runs dry.

Robert Novak: RIP

Robert Novak, the old conservative journalist, died today.  He was a cranky old bastard, which is precisely the reason Cranky Greg was so fond of him.

Cranky Greg recently read Novak's autobiography, The Prince of Darkness, and it was an excellent read for those of you who are interested in America's political history of the past 50 years.  It was the one autobiography where the author really revealed warts.  Most autobiographies make Cranky Greg laugh, but not this one.

In any case, Novak will be missed by those like Cranky Greg who get so tired of hearing the conventional wisdom and who detest "journalists" who fail to scrutinize those they like, such as Barack Obama.

Novak was his own man, and did his own thing, and his reporting was accurate.  He didn't care if his reporting hurt a Republican's political career or a Democrat's political career.

He was definitely a man of the old school.  Smoking, drinking, reporting.

Cranky Greg is going to miss Robert Novak, and it is too bad that Novak is going to probably be remembered for the Valerie Plame affair, which was ridiculous in its own right - not because of anything Novak did.

The recent passing of Walter Cronkite had the MSM in a frenzy of self-adulation and worship of Walter Cronkite who mostly wrote and read scripts.  Novak was more valuable to Americans in his day because he was a reporter.

But MSM won't slobber over themselves at Novak's passing.  Which explains everything.

Fresno County: California's Detroit?

It's bad here in the Central Valley.  Rick Wartzman's piece about the water crisis here in Fresno County compares Fresno with Detroit.

It' probably a good comparison.  Things are ugly in the small agricultural towns with unemployment rates at 40%+.  There is no hope on the horizon with the incompetent politicians, crazy environmentalists and the real estate crash.

Malaise

Jimmy Carter's "Malaise Speech" from 30 years ago, today.  It's kinda interesting to listen to during these times.  Unfortunately, Jimmy Carter was the worst president of Cranky Greg's lifetime, barely narrowing out George W. Bush, who gave Carter a run for his money.

John Finn or Michael Jackson?

Hey, did y'all hear that Michael Jackson died?  Forget Iran, North Korea, the California budget crisis, the overall economic crisis - Wacko Jacko's death is the important story...at least if you believe MSM.

At least the Los Angeles Times published a story about centenarian John Finn who is the oldest Medal of Honor recipient and the only living recipient from Pearl Harbor.  According to the times, this is what Finn did to earn his recognition:

What Finn did was take control of a .50-caliber machine gun at the Navy base at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and fire at the Japanese attack planes that violent morning that changed the world, Dec. 7, 1941.

Wounded five times, he refused to be evacuated and kept firing at the planes that were strafing the base and its sailors. Watching Finn's courage, other sailors rallied to his side, manning other guns.

Meanwhile, a few decades later, in a free country thanks to the likes of John Finn, Michael Jackson, having earned millions and millions of dollars for singing songs, wearing weird clothes, and dancing, was sleeping with young boys and spending money at a rate that would make him fit right in at the Capitol in Sacramento.

Then Michael Jackson dies at an age half of Finn's and the world is in a frenzy.

Jackson would not have had the opportunity to live such a crazy life had it not been for Finn and his colleagues who fought the Japanese and assured our freedom in World War II.  Finn was wounded five times and didn't sit around whining about his injuries after the war because he did what he "was paid to do."

Cranky Greg likes music as much as anyone else, but he'd rather have a world of John Finns rather than Michael Jacksons.  Had it not been for Jackson's unbelievable talents, he would be just another loony pedophile that would probably have an entry in a sexual offender registry on the Internet while guys like John Finn, after the war, went to work every day to support their families.

Crazy.
