Reunion Arena in Dallas is soon to be torn down. That's a bummer. It was a great place to see the Stars and the Mavericks and concerts and such.
But it didn't have luxury boxes, so to hell with the real fans. The corporate fat cats who are now begging the taxpayers for bailouts like fancy boxes paid for by shareholders and the Mark Cubans and the Tom Hicks of the world want to make more money so they abandoned Reunion Arena for the American Airlines Center to accommodate the big-ass corporations.
But Cranky Greg digresses.
Cranky Greg has many fond musical memories of Reunion Arena. He saw many concerts here. He saw Pavarotti, Neil Young, Frank Sinatra, Queen, John Mellencamp, The Moody Blues, Dan Fogelberg, Michael Jackson, Liza Minelli, Elton John, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Fleetwood Mac, among many others.
In sports, he saw his first NBA game there in the first year of the Dallas Mavericks. It was the Mavs vs. Knicks. Cranky saw many Mavs games there in the 1980's. And the Dallas Stars games were the best. It didn't matter where you sat at Reunion, it seemed as if you were right on the ice or the court. Especially those loud Stars games!!
And in politics, Cranky Greg remembers seeing President Reagan there, twice. Once at the Moral Majority conference in August 1980 (Cranky went just to see Reagan) and then 4 years later at a prayer breakfast in 1984 during the Republican Convention in Dallas, back when Republicans were really Republicans.
Cranky Greg has many great memories of Reunion Arena.
